Rick Ross
got an unpleasant surprise on his birthday. On Monday morning, January
28, the rapper crashed his Rolls Royce into a building after he heard
multiple gunshots fired in his direction when driving by a Fort
Lauderdale street in Florida.
Rozay was leaving Club LIV in Miami, where he celebrated his 37th
birthday with his girlfriend Shateria L. Moragne-El, when someone shot
multiple times in his car's direction. He tried to dodge the bullets,
but ended up crashing his luxurious gray car into an apartment near 15th
Avenue and Las Olas Boulevard.
"The driver of the Rolls Royce attempted to drive away from the
direction of the shots being fired and lost control of the vehicle,
striking a nearby apartment building," Fort Lauderdale Police Detective
DeAnna Garcia confirms. Beth Balk, who lives in the building, recalls
the crash, "A giant kaboom knocked me off the bed and I went to the
front door and all I saw was a car."
Rozay, who was driving the car, and Moragne-El, who sat on the passenger
seat, were not injured in the incident. "They looked disheveled. They
looked like they had been through something," says an employee who
witnessed the rapper and his girlfriend being questioned by police
before driven away in a black SUV.
"The suspects fled from the area prior to police arrival," Det. Garcia adds. Police have listed the shooting as "an active and ongoing criminal investigation."
There's no word whether the shooting was related to death threats made
by street gang Gangster Disciples against Rozay recently. Back in
December 2012, the "Aston Martin Music" hitmaker denied that the threats
caused him to cancel the remainder of his MMG Tour.
Rozay has not released any comment on the incident, but fellow rapper 50 Cent
believed the shooting was staged. "Hahaha fat boy hit the building?lol
it looks stage to me. No hole's in da car," he wrote in a caption of a
pic of the crashed Rolls Royce posted on Instagram. 50 Cent and Rozay
have been in feud since 2009.
