Katie Holmes has joined the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) at her daughter's school.
The 33-year-old actress has thrown herself into life in New York with six-year-old Suri since splitting from Tom Cruise and is heavily involved in the youngster's life at Avenues school.
A source said: "Katie is embracing her new-found life as a member of the PTA.
"She's getting involved in as many activities at the school as her schedule will allow. She's really thrown herself into being a single mom."
Katie and Suri moved to New York from Los Angeles after her split from Tom Cruise was announced in June.
When they lived in Beverly Hills, Suri was home-schooled but Katie was keen for her to have as normal a life as possible so enrolled her into one of the best schools in New York.
The mother-and-daughter duo are often seen doing every day things in the city including taking the subway, going to the park and having play dates with Suri's friends.
