Gwyneth Paltrow Puts Her Family on Strict Low-Carb, Gluten-Free Diet

Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow reveals her family's healthy diet and lifestyle in her new cookbook, "It's All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great". She opens up about how she tries to keep her husband Chris Martin, daughter Apple, and son Moses on a low-carb, gluten-free diet.

Paltrow has adopted the conscientious diet since she was diagnosed with severe anemia and vitamin D-deficiency in 2011. "Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across... seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it," she says.

Learning that her family "is intolerant of gluten, dairy, chicken's eggs, among many other surprising foods" through allergy testing, Paltrow has managed to avoid feeding her children and husband certain foods. Even so, the "Iron Man" actress admits that it is not always easy for her family, saying, "Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we're left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs."

The strict diet Paltrow adopts has provoked reactions among nutritionists and commentators. It is debatable whether the healthy lifestyle can be considered too severe for the kids or not.

Paltrow's second cookbook "It's All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great" will be available in bookstores on April 2. Its 185 recipes will give readers a new "flavorful spin" on popular dishes based on her doctor prescribed diet, including dishes such as salmon burgers with pickled ginger and hummus tartine with scallion mint pesto.
